Andrew, a husbandman (farmer) came to Plymouth in 1633. He settled in
Dorchester (that was later incorporated as the town of Milton in 1662)
where he received a grant of land in 1634. He held 122 acres of land
with his home lot on what is now Canton Ave., reaching to the Neponsit
River. Admitted a Freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony 2 Jun 1641.
Bought upland and meadows in Medway, MA in 1652, lying in the woods on
the west bank of the Charles river, 3 miles from Natick.
His estate at his death was valued at more than 286 pounds, a large
amount for that time. It consisted of a dwelling house, barn, house lot,
3 acres of meadow and 200 acres of upland and meadow. Today there is a
bronze plaque at the sight of his home that reads "andrew and Margaret
Pitcher built their home in 1650. Later occupied by the preceptor of the
Milton Academy, it stood for 250 years."
