George came here about 1633 with his wife and children John and Mary. He
settled in Watertwon, MA. In 1635 they were part of a group of about
sixty men, women and children who left Watertown and travelled overland
to establish a settlement in Westersfield, CT. That first winter was
bitter cold, and the settlers had to survive on acorn, mall and grain, as
their furniture and provisions sent ahead by ship did not arrive, being
frozen up in the Connecticut River.
In 1939 he was one of the founders of Milford, CT, but may not have
moved there until 1643. By 1650, he had moved to Guilford, CT, where he
remained the rest of his life. He was active in civic affairs, serving
as Representative to the General Assembly for Wethersfield in 1638. He
was a member of the same Assembly for Guilford in 1666-1667, and served
as a Deputy Magistrate in Guilford from 1670 to 1676. He was a surveyor
and land owner. He was buried where the soldier's monument now stands,
in the middle of the village green of Guilford.
