Jacob Schermerhorn settled on property inherited from his father, about
six miles south of Schenectady, near the Normanskill. In later life he
moved to Courtland Co., NY. where he died. He was commissioned Jan. 17,
1764, first lieutenant in the 1st Battlalion of Schenectady Militia,
Capt. John Glen's troop of the Light Horse. On Oct 30, 1775, he was
commissioned Lieut. Col. of the 3rd Regiment of the Schenectady Militia.
