In the name of God amen I Henry Hice of the County of Westmoreland &
Wheatfield Township farmer finding myself to labor under some bodily
disorders, but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this to be
my last Will & Testament in the following manner & form. I leave to my
dearly beloved wife her living out of my land that is hereafter willed to
my son Henry and also the one third part of all my household goods.
Together with a mare of the value of twenty pounds & two cows of the
value of five pounds each together with the increase to be kept by my son
Henry provided that she does not keep any of the cattle that may come of
these now willed to her until they are above three years old that they
may not be too expensive on my son Henry but she has hereby full power to
sell or dispose of all the stock and other property hereby willed to her
except the mare & cows which falls to my sons George and William & she
also is to have six sheep kept for her in like manner, all to belong to
my wife & kept for her as before mentioned until her decease, and I leave
to my son Henry all my moveable property that may be found on my farm at
time of my decease except that is willed to my wife. Viz. my son Henry
paying all my lawful debts & funeral charges & I allow my lands to my
sons Henry, George & William to them their heirs & assigns forever to be
divided in following manner viz in three equal parts my son Henry to have
the upper part including all my improvements George to have his part
adjoining & next to Henry's part including his improvements & William to
have his part on the lower end of my land including the improvement on
which he now lives leaving my real estate under & subject to the
maintenance of my wife in a comfortable & genteel manner and with the
payment or performance above made over to her and I further allow my son
John five pounds to be paid by son Henry ten years after my decease and I
also allow one hundred pounds to my five daughters to be paid in ten
years after my decease by my three sons, Henry, George & William forty
pounds to be paid by Henry and thirty by George & thirty by William. I
allow twenty pounds to the children of my daughter Anny deceased, William
Overmans wife and I allow twenty pounds to Christeena, Henry Toshes wife
& twenty pounds to Hannah, Nicholas Sniders wife & twenty pounds to
Cathren, Robert McDowell's wife and twenty pounds to Mary, Isaac Rogers
wife which includes the above hundred pounds it is to be understood that
my property I have already given to my children is to be remain their
property and not to be considered as any part of my moveable estate and
is also part of my Will if any right or title should be brought forward
or any part of my land or suits commencing against any of my three sons
holding it the defence shall be at their expense equally & if any (page
124) part is lost the loss must be equal so that they may enjoy parts
alike. I hereby appoint my friend James Brady and my son Henry Executors
of this my Last Will & Testament. I hereby disallow of utterly revoke &
disanull all former Wills Legacies or Bequests by me in any wise
hereafore willed or bequeathed published & confirming this and no other
to be my last will & Testament in Witness where of I have hereunto set my
hand & seal this ninth day of January 1795.

In the 1780's Henry received a land grant and settled in Pa., below
Johnstown. He had three sons Henry, George and William. This William had
two sons, John and Samuel. John had a son Samuel who married Sarah Decker
and migrated to Maine in the 1840's, They had ten children.

Executors: Robert Hice and William Hice. Written 23 NOV 1833 Proved 26

George Hice: "I was born in the State of New Jersey about one mile from
Flemingstown in the year 1765." He was living at Ft. Ligonier when he
entered the service in the American Rev. War. and moved to Wheatfield
Twp,
Indiana County in 1785. A note attached states he died November 26, 1833.
The American Revolutinary War record of George Hice,
Pension #22423:: 3-27-1833 "While a resident of Ft. Ligioner,
Westmoreland Co., PA he joined a company of volunteer riflemen, commanded
by
Captain Samuel Shannon. Assembled at Sheriff Carnahan's , 10 Aug 1781,
commanded by Col Archibald Loughry. Marched, via Washington, Penna, to
Wheeling Va. After a stay of about two days they went down the Ohio River
in boats as far as a creek called Loughry's Creek, a few miles below the
mouth of the Big Miami River. At this place, August 1781, about 11o men
(many having deserted between Wheeling and this place) were attacked by a
large number of Indians under the command of Simon Girty, and James Girty
and an Indian called Capt. Brant. The attack was made by the Indians from
the shore just as much of the boats had touched for the purpose of
landing.
Thirty eight of the men were killed, and Col. Loughry was also killed by
the
Indians on the same day after he had been taken prisoner."
"Those not killed, including GEORGE HICE, were taken to Shawnee towns on
the
Big Miami. Four days after he was taken prisoner he ran the gauntlet
with
several others. He was taken to Maurnee towns where he was detained by
the
Indians for about a year, then taken to Detroit, given to the British and
held prisoner for another 14 months; thence in an English vessel to Ft.
Erie,
thence to Montreal, St. John's across Lake Champlain to Ticonderoga,
thence by Albany to New York, thence across the State of New Jersey, by
New Brunswick to Reading, PA, thence by Harrisburg, Carlisle to Ft.
Ligonier
in Westmoreland Co. (PA) in the month of October 1783."
