Jonathan Whitcomb (1739-92) served as captain in Col. James Reed's Third
New Hampshire
regiment at Bunker Hill. It is on record in a court of inquiry that here
he [p.102] manifested a
spirit of intrepidity and resolution. When he died his regiment
attended the funeral and his horse,
saddled and bridled, followed the bearers. He was born in Leominster,
Mass., and died in
Swansey, N. H. His brothers, Joseph, Elisha, Philemon and Abijah also
served in the Revolution.
