" WALNUT - 19th, ...About 2:30 o'clock on the 14th inst., the whole
village was awakened by the cry of fire, which proved to be no false
alarm, for a lurid light lit up the scene, and beneath the smoke,
fast disappearing under the hungry flames, the Farmers Hotel, owned
and kept by Charles Overholt, was seen burning to the ground.
Although the night was very still, much work was required to keep
other buildings from sharing the same fate. All the furniture
up-stairs was burned, and all the provisions in the cellar. The
building and contents was insured for $1,900, which will not cover
the loss, the building alone costing more than that. It seems hard
for an old man, who has grown gray with steady work, to be burned
out of house and home, and Mr. Overholt and family have the heartfelt
sympathy of the entire village in this their sad misfortune. How the
house caught fire is still a mystery. "

death at Bartlesville last week. Mr. Overholt located on Snow creek,
about two and a half years ago, and moved to Bartlesville last fall. He
was an upright citizen and was respected by everybody."

was Bob Stevens - his mother, rather, was Bob's sister.
"See, Aunt Nancy left there. Father just after the Civil War came to
Walnut, married and raised 3 boys - all lost in the world. She never
heard from them."
